UP THE MILLERS made his maiden appearance in the 188Bet Extra Place Races Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Median Auction Stakes(Class 5) (2yo) 6f . Going was Standard To Slow.
UP THE MILLERS attracted a lot of attention from other trainers in the ring, not only for his size, good looks and turned out appearance. He is a horse with bags of character and was very fresh in the ring. Jack Garritty took some time to get aboard but once up he took control and UP THE MILLERS settled in to the task. He was very green going to post but fortunately went into his stall without two much fuss, unlike two others who were withdrawn before coming under starters orders.
UP THE MILLERS was drawn 2, away from the stands side. Jack Garritty got him away quickly and he took a strong hold and making a prominent early showing. Jack finally got a firm hold about 4 furlongs out and got UP THE MILLERS behind the pack. The horse didn't seem to like this idea and immediately dropped back to last. Two furlongs out Jack pressed the go button and let UP THE MILERS off the bridle, he accelerated through the field briefly reaching second place, making up 5 lengths in the process and clearly enjoying the idea. He kept on at same pace in the final final furlong and was eventually overhauled by Gale Force Maya and Kimberley Girl .
UP THE MILLERS, a half-brother to a winner over 7f, shaped with plenty promise. He's sure to come on for the experience, and if he can settle better then there are races to be won with him. A very positive first appearance and something to build on next time out . He is sure to have learned loads from the experience.
A couple were withdrawn at the start.
GALE FORCE MAYA overcame a slow start to make a winning debut, enjoying a decent tow into the race and not needing to be asked for a maximum effort by her rider.
The Grey Zebedee came in for support and showed bright speed, but couldn't hold off the winner. He saw out the trip well enough but should prove just as effective back over five.
Kimberley Girl still looked green, but this was an improvement on her C&D debut.
Ollivander, taken out due to unsuitable good to firm ground at Catterick two days earlier, showed some ability. His dam, a Listed scorer, has produced several winners at an ordinary level.
Flint Said No didn't build on a promising start to his career at Carlisle, taking a tug early and weakening rather quickly.
Gaslight is a half-sister to several winners, among them her connections' useful 7f handicapper Insurgence. Tongue tied for this debut, she was too green to do herself justice.
