UP THE MILLERS had his second race and the first on turf today at Thirsk in the Racing UK - EBF Novice Stakes (Plus 10 Race) (Div II)(Class 4) (2yo) 6f . Going was Good To Soft and Soft in places .
UP THE MILLERS was looking to improve on his maiden race at Newcastle 11 days ago on the AWT. Jack Garritty was again on board and this time had much less to handle between his legs. UP THE MILLERS had learned the lessons of the previous week and was as good as gold in the parade ring. Three hours earlier he had nearly been withdrawn when he was heard coughing . The vet was brought in but declared him fit to race. Certainly Ann Duffield had a positive tone when interviewed on Racing UK.
UP THE MILLERS broke well from his centre draw but again took time to settle before he made good progress to be with the leaders 3 furlongs out. He ran his race without ever going to catch the leading pair and found the last furlong a furlong too far today.
There were one or two noteworthy efforts in this novice race.
GET THE RHYTHM had faced a stiff task in a Goodwood maiden first time, and this was an easier race. He just lost out in a driving finish but was given the race by the stewards.
Fuente has stepped up on his debut run to win at Ayr on his previous start, and that was the best form on offer. He ran to an RPR of 84 that day and probably ran to a similar mark this time as he got home in a driving finish. However, he edged left and lost the race in the stewards' room. He is a likely sort for nurseries.
Frosted Lass has improved a little with each run though she faded here after showing early speed. Small nurseries now beckon for her.
Musical Sky was up in trip for her second run but was a bit keen. She should progress a bit more but she'll need to improve if she is to win a novice event.
George's Law came home quite well to run quite promisingly on his debut. He'll do better but is likely to need some cut in the ground.
Rosebank, the first foal of a 6f/7f 2yo winner (RPR 98), was too green to show her true ability on her debut.
